Theological underpinning

As a Church of England school, we are required to provide further explanation about how our vision links to Christian beliefs, as found in the Bible. This is called the theological underpinning of the vision.

At Corbett, we believe that God loves each of us unconditionally and we are precious in God’s sight.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful.

Psalm 139:13–16

We believe we are made in the image of God the Father, God the Son Jesus Christ and God the Holy Spirit. Yet God is One and we want our school to mirror their perfect community of diversity and unity. Just as we are very precious to God, so is every child at Corbett. Each child is unique, worthy of our care and best efforts. We want everyone within our community to have the fulness of life, as Jesus promises in John’s Gospel chapter 10, verse 10. We are committed to a holistic and inclusive provision for everyone so we may flourish academically, emotionally and spiritually.

Isaiah 43:4–6

By knowing we are valued and loved, we value and love each other.

I give you a new command: Love each other. You must love each other as I have loved you.

John 13:34

Jesus teaches that we should love one another as God has loved us. As we love each other we reflect something of God’s own nature, whose self-giving, selfless love was demonstrated in the death of Jesus on the Cross. Jesus’ sacrificial love helps us model and create a community of compassion, forgiveness and reconciliation. We seek to offer opportunities for the children to see beyond themselves and help others, valuing the rich diversity of the world around them. Children can make a difference in the world and their values and attitudes can affect those around them.

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Colossians 3:12

Proverbs 1:5

By enabling children to experience success and to develop their curiosity and love of learning, they become motivated and aspirational. Our curriculum provision seeks to be inspiring and engaging across a broad and varied range of subjects. The children will have the opportunity to collaborate and learn from and with others, as well as independently consolidating their knowledge and skills and exploring new learning. We encourage the children to respect learning for all and to value the growth they see in themselves which will prepare them for the future.

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.
