Ofsted 2024

I am delighted to let you know that the report from our recent Ofsted inspection, which took place on the March 6th, is now available for us to share with you.

The inspectors concluded that Corbett (VA) CE Primary School continues to be a GOOD school and that there were many areas to celebrate. These included:

  • The nurturing culture of the school
  • The warm, respectful relationships between staff and pupils
  • Good friendships that are developed between the children
  • Children behave well
  • Children feel safe and proud of our school

We are pleased to read about the engaging and effective delivery of maths and that our relatively new schemes of work across the wider curriculum are ensuring the children have the essential knowledge they need. This is an area we look forward to continuing to develop and enrich, helping children to continue to build on their learning over time.

The inspectors were very thorough in their assessment of all aspects of school life. The inspection included deep dives into various subjects, lesson visits, discussion with leaders, staff, children, parents and governors, and they reviewed documentation provided by the school.  More of what inspectors looked at can be found within the official report, linked below.

The inspectors also acknowledged that the school has been through a significant time of turbulence and that staffing instability has been challenging. This has meant that there are still some areas that we need to work on and improve. We welcome this feedback and are already working to keep improving the school and our systems.

Our next steps include:

  • Continuing to stabilise the staff team; providing high-quality teaching and learning
  • Updating our safeguarding training tracking systems
  • Ensuring that the implementation of our phonics scheme is monitored rigorously and that teachers have the support and training they need

It was disappointing to have to report a small number of children have been taken out of school to go on holidays during term time, and in some cases, this means their levels of attendance are not as expected.  You can make a big difference by supporting us in this area and making sure that your child does not miss valuable learning time due to planned holidays. Thank you.

The report has provided us with an external view of the school, reflecting throughout our ‘unwavering determination to secure the very best outcomes for every pupil.’ We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with parents and carers to move the school forward, whilst also celebrating and building on the many areas in which our wonderful school has shone through.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff, governors, and all of our parents and carers for their continuing support and feedback. There is much to look forward to in the future of the school, with the children always being at the heart of all we do.

Yours sincerely,
Mrs E Jones
